Calcutta, November 16: The Calcutta High court ordered a ban on the sale and use of all kinds of firecrackers on Thursday (November 5) on the occasion of Kali Puja, Diwali me and chhath puja in West Bengal. A division bench of justices Sanjiv Banerjee and Arijit Banerjee said that keeping firecrackers in pandemic situation of covid-19 could be harmful to the environment and infected patients. The court also mentioned the same guidelines about pandals, idol immersion, social distance and so on like Durga Puja. In such a situation the court ordered that the ban on firecrackers would be continuing during jagadhatri Puja and Karthik Puja. If the court order was violated, legal actions could be taken against the violators. Mamata Banerjee, our honorable chief minister appealed to people to hold Kali puja, Diwali, Chhath Puja, Jagadhatri Puja and Kartik Puja avoiding firecrackers. The president of ‘Paschim Bongo Atoshbaji Union Samiti’ Babla Roy said live-hoods of around 4 lakh people would be affected if the fire crackers banned. He urged the chief minister’s office to grant permission to burst crackers for 2 hours on Kali puja and Diwali. He had also demanded a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to each fire-work dealers.
